Child Safety Seats - What's the Law?
INFANT AND TODDLER SEATS
These are children less than four years of age OR who weight less than 40 pounds. They must be in an appropriate child safety seat.

BOOSTER SEATS
These seats are used for children ages four through seven who weigh at least 40 pounds UNLESS they are 80 pounds or more OR 4'9" tall or taller.

SEAT BELTS
Seat belts need to be used for children eight and over OR weighing 80 pounds or more or if they are 4'9" or taller.

EXEMPTIONS: Children who should be in a booster seat may ride in the back seat wearing only a lap belt if the back seat does not have a combination lap and shoulder belt, booster seats should never be used with a lap belt only.

If there are more children in the IMMEDIATE family than seating postions, the children who can't be restrained by a child safety restraint shall sit in the back seat unless the vehicle only has a front seat.

REMEMBER: Riding in the pickup cargo areas (truck beds) is not allowed for children under 18 years of age.
